Our Approach

At French Press, we care about where things come from — and how they make you feel. That’s why we roast our own coffee in-house, whip our hot chocolate from Belgian chocolate and local milk, and bake fresh every morning.

Our café menus rotate with the seasons, and always feature comforting favourites like sticky buns, lemon tarts, carrot cake, and daily muffins — many of which have gluten-free options.

We believe in craft without pretension. Warmth over trendiness. And quality that speaks for itself.

Jeremy

Founder / Roaster-in-Chief

The coffee journey started on tour — as a professional violist. Life on the road had lost its shine, so Jeremy opened his first café in 2000 in Huddersfield, UK. A few years (and a second café) later, he began roasting his own beans under the name Bean Brothers Coffee Company.

Over the next two decades, Jeremy dove deep into specialty coffee: educating at universities, judging national barista competitions, and writing for industry publications. In 2017, he relocated with his Canadian wife, Hannah, and their kids to Qualicum Beach, bought the French Press café, and (not surprisingly) brought the roaster with him. French Press Coffee Roasters was born — and the rest is still brewing.

Robert

Head Roaster

Robert Langdon is the steady hand (and sharp palate) behind every roast at French Press. As our Head Roaster, he balances science, intuition, and a lot of early mornings to craft the flavours you find in your cup.

When he’s not dialing in espresso or coaxing the perfect profile from the big red roaster, you might spot him at Saratoga Speedway — trading beans for cones and proving that precision and passion translate from roasting to racing.
